2012 Foundations Training for Caregivers
DHS Child Welfare / Timber Ridge Room

Required Foundation Classes - Recommended that applicants begin with Session 1
- Session 1 - Introduction to Foundations (or Orientation)- 3 hours
- Session 2 - Importance of Birth Families- 3 hours
- Session 3- Child Development and the Impact of Abuse- 3 hours
- Session 4 - Sexual Abuse- 3 hours
- Session 5 - Behavior Management- 3 hours
- Session 6 - Valuing the Child’s Heritage- 3 hours
- Session 7 – Families Together - 3 hours
- Session 8 – Next Steps for Providers - 3 hours
SLAM! Another option to take Foundations Classes. It is all sessions, done in order, over 3 days. You may either register for the entire SLAM, or only for the Sessions you have missed thru the individual classes.
Classes you may be required to take depending on the age of the child in your care:
- Basic Care of At Risk Infants - all providers caring for children 18 months and younger.(Basic Care - Infants) 5 hours (1 hour lunch)
- Child Passenger Restraint Training- all providers caring for children 8 years and younger (CAR) 2 hours
- CPR and First Aid – all providers caring for children18 months and younger – you will take this class last. (CPR) 3 ½ hours

- Childcare is available if needed and space is available. Childcare slots are limited to 12-15 school-age children. We will announce more groups and professional training opportunities soon!
The Details and How to Sign Up:The Level 1 Group covers the basics of Collaborative Problem Solving, an exciting, research based approach to parenting. Although the CPS approach was designed to work with explosive or challenging children, it works wonderfully with typically developing children as well. Participants learn through a lively combination of instruction, discussion, small group activities, and supplemental reading. Group members will be provided with a copy of the book "The Explosive Child" by Ross W. Greene, PhD and other course materials.Level I runs from 4:30 PM to 7:15 PM.The Level 2 Group builds on the basics and focuses on applying CPS principals to every day family situations. Group members are required to have participated in a Level I group or an equivalent (Exceptions must be pre-approved by an instructor.) Participants learn through interaction with the presenters and other group members as they bring real-life situations to the group for review and fine-tuning. Group members will be provided with all course materials.Level II runs from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM.Both groups are 5 sessions long and meet on Tuesday evenings. Dinner will be provided during the group for participants and children! A limited number of prearranged childcare slots for school-age children will be available.How to sign up: Contact the Intake Office at The Child Center at 541-726-1465- This group is free of charge to families and is funded through a grant from LaneCare to provide preventative services in Lane County. First priority will be given to LaneCare members who are not currently receiving services, families whose children are covered under the Oregon Health Plan, and Foster Parents. Additional families will be accommodated as space allows. Enrollment will be limited to 12 families.

Parking is allowed along the perimeter of the adjacent lot along Harlow Road and Beverly Street ONLY! Additional parking is available in the Big 5 lot adjacent to Harlow Road.
Please note that due to call volume, Tammie will not return your phone call to confirm enrollment to a class. Confirmation of class registration will be sent via email only!

- Your full name (first and last), plus the name of your partner/spouse if that person will also be attenting. If your name is uncommon or unusual, spelling is helpful.
- Your complete address. If your name is common, or not heard correctly on the voicemail, this information is used to cross reference to make sure the right person is registered.
- Your phone number and email address. If Tammie needs to notify you of a cancellation or a venue change, the first attempt will be via email because more people can be reached in a short amount of time.
- The full name of the class you are registering for along with the DATE. Occassionally there is more than one training opportunity on the same day and it is not uncommon for classes to have similar sounding names.
- Internet Trainings

Foster Parent College
