Debbie Albright
President and Membership
Debbie and her husband Jason have been fostering for 5 years. They are the very definition of a blended family, with four biological daughters, two daughters they are guardians of, a foster teen daughter, and one adopted son. Debbie has a degree in Early Childhood Education and teaches music classes for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Jason is a chef and loves to get the kids involved in the kitchen. Their family has experienced the ups and downs of fostering and continue to believe that they can make a difference in the lives of children in Lane County. Debbie has served on the FAAPA board for a year and a half and is very happy and excited to be serving as President. She is committed to focusing on families and fun and providing practical training and support to foster and adoptive families.

Melissa Askew
Vice President and Website
Melissa is a stay at home mother of 6 children under the age of 8 and a 16 year old teen girl. Melissa and her husband specialize in fostering hard to place teen girls. She has a heart for teens and loves spending time with them! She is passionate about giving teen girls a safe place to call home and a family that supports them. Melissa has served as a mentor to high school girls for the past five years and continues to enjoy that role. She also enjoys reading and blogging in her spare time. Melissa joined the board to help reach out to other foster parents in Lane County. She feels the best thing a foster family can have is a strong support system and a place to always turn to for answers. FAAPA has been a huge support to her family and she looks forward to offering that same support to other families in her community.

Brigette Sherman
Board Member

Brigette Sherman has served on the FAAPA Board for over two years in various positions. She fosters hard to place adolescent and teen girls and is in the process of adopting two. She has a passion for supporting foster and adoptive parents through their journey to care for the children of our community. She is currently finishing a BS in Sociology and Substance Abuse Prevention and aspires to soon enter into a career in the social work field while raising her girls.

Kathy Donais
Head of Development and Grant Writing

Kathy and her husband Bob have been fostering children since 2004. Kathy has served on the FAAPA board for two years.
They have reaped the rewards of fostering sibling groups, they specialize in medically fragile infants/toddlers and adolescents and teens who present with behavioral and/or mental health challenges.
They raised two sons, have a wonderful granddaughter, and two great grandsons.
Kathy holds a M.Ed. in psychology and agency counseling. She has 13 years’ experience
providing mental health and addictions therapy. Additionally, she has 17 years’ experience directing community mental health and addictions programs. Kathy has served on multiple boards and committees at the state, county, and local community level serving youth and adolescents.
Kathy retired early with a passion to provide foster care. Bob retired last year from his career as an engineer. They are delighted to have unlimited time to devote to the children in their home. They typically have two infants in their home in addition to a 13 year old permanent foster girl.
They apply a motivationally enhanced and reward and incentive philosophy to their parenting with lots of hugs and positive reinforcement.
Kathy enjoys documenting her children’s foster care experiences through scrapbooking that she sends with them to their next passage of their life journey.

Shelley Jack
Board Member and Community Partners Co Chair
Shelley Jack has been active in the community, especially in regards to children's issues, since moving to Eugene in 1983. She joined the FAAPA Board 3 years ago but has been involved in the annual Christmas Party for 7 years. Shelley is involved with her children's sports teams, she's also a gardener, reader and walker. Shelley is married to Ron Jack, they have 2 children.

Born and raised in Oregon and a foster parent in Lane County since 2002, Julea has served on FAAPA's board for 2 years. Julea specializes in medically fragile babies/toddlers and toddler/preschool age children with behavior challenges. She has a college and work background in Early Childhood Education, and Nursing. Before Julea became a foster parent she worked in a local Teen Parent Program and several Early Childhood Programs. Julea is known for her open mindedness, passion, and fighting for what she believes in. In her free time she enjoys sewing, time with her extended friends and family, and Reading. Julea has two biological children Deion 16, Piper 3, and a Great Dane Haley.

Dawnie Carlson
Board Member
Dawnie Carlson moved to the Eugene area in 1989. She has worked in the Medical Foster Care Field since 1994. She and Life Partner Liz have successfully raised 3 girls of their own & have 2+ & counting grandchildren. They specialize in hard to place medically fragile Traumatized o-3 year old sibling groups. Children are the Hope of All of Our Futures....we teach them the posibility of a Future Full of Hope.

Nick coordinates and produces the monthly FAAPA Newsletter. He is a foster parent and works full-time at Northwest Christian University in the athletic department. He has helped to coordinate numerous FAAPA fundraising opportunities through NCU.

Secretary and Treasurer

Teresa has lived in the Eugene / Springfield area her entire life. She has been married to her husband Neil for 14 years and they have two biological children together. Teresa is a Legal Assistant at a law firm in Eugene and through her job found that there was such a huge need for foster families that they opened their home to sibling groups so they could continue to live in one home together. Teresa and her family enjoy camping, boating, swimming and just being together. Teresa feels very blessed to be able to be a foster parent and to be part of such a wonderful organization.
